An unincorporated community known as Cahone may be found in the western part of Dolores County, Colorado, in the United States. It is located approximately 9 miles southeast of Dove Creek and straddles U.S. Highway 491. There is a post office, a big bean farm with storage and processing facilities, as well as a small bar and grill; however, there are no grocery stores, automotive service facilities, tourist accommodations, or any other types of businesses or services in the area.
A prehistoric North San Juan pueblo dating back to the era between 1000 and 1499 AD, the Ansel Hall Ruin, which is also known as the Cahone Ruin, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1997. It is also known by its other name, the Cahone Ruin. Around the year 1912, the town of Cahone was incorporated. Bert Ballenger, who later became the town’s first postmaster, gave the name of the settlement to a nearby canyon that is called El Cajón in Spanish, which literally translates to “little box.” On May 21, 1916, the Cahone Post Office first opened its doors.
Cahone is a relatively undeveloped area that is home to a population of close to 500 people. Agriculture is the primary contributor to the economy, and the largest job in the area is a bean farm. As a result of its location in close proximity to the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Cahone also benefits from tourism.
