HFASS Contemplative Retreat 2017
November 11, 2017 @ 9:00 am - November 12, 2017 @ 12:00 pm$100
At the Contemplative Retreat, we gather to retreat from the rhythms of our daily life and spend some time in a slower, quieter and more peaceful pattern of life. The retreat is overnight and mostly silent. No experience required. Every year, there is a mix of long-time contemplatives and folks brand new to contemplative practices. We will do some teaching of basic contemplation. For an introduction to the practice of silence, here is a brief explanation by Fr. Jim Martin and a more in-depth talk by Richard Rohr.
We will be at the beautiful La Foret Conference and Retreat Center near Colorado Springs. From the church, it is a 1 hour and 10 minute drive. Folks are usually happy to carpool. So, just ask around. Here’s a property map of La Foret.
Check-in for the retreat will begin at 9 am on Saturday, Nov 11 and our first gathering will be at 10 am. The day ends with compline around 9 pm. Sunday morning we will gather for breakfast, followed by a communion liturgy and additional opportunities for silence and contemplation. The retreat ends before lunch on Sunday giving us time to return to Denver in time for our regular Sunday liturgy.
Cost & Accomodations
The cost is $100 for room and board (see below for financial assistance). The accomodations are primarily shared rooms with bunk beds, with a few rooms with single beds. All reservations include lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. All linens are provided and each linen set includes mattress pad, sheet set, pillow, blankets and a towel. If you want extra blankets, towels, etc, please bring them. Once you have registered, go here to choose your room and bed.
Please register as soon as you can. Registration ends on October 22nd.
Day Retreat Option
If you’d like to come up for the day on Saturday and/or Sunday (but won’t be staying the night), we ask that you register and pay $12 per meal you will be having with us. You may also pay in person via check, but shoot us an email to let us know you will be coming at email@example.com.
The retreat center will provide meals and coffee/tea. Bring snacks and other beverages if you wish (wine/beer is okay). The kitchen can accomodate any special diets, allergies, etc. Please note your dietary preferences on the Roommates Form.
Scholarships & Donations
If you need financial assistance, you may select the scholarship option and donate what you can. We ask that you try to pay at least half, but if that’s difficult, we still want you to come.
If you are able to donate to our scholarship fund, just select the Donate to Scholarship Fund option below. Donations will go to help retretants who need financial assistance. Thank you for your donations!
That’s pretty much everything you need to know. Once you’ve registered and chosen your room, all you need to do is show up between 9 and 10 am on November 11th! If you have any questions, shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. As the date approaches, we’ll send out a detailed schedule and any other info that may be helpful.
