Pumphouse Brewery

With it’s fire-house feel, Pumphouse Brewery features unique brews that can only be found at their brewery, with a focus on quality over quantity. They aim to serve their local community the best beers, and feature classic beer flavors with a personal touch.

History of Pumphouse Brewery

When you walk in to the brewery, you will see a building that appears to be a firehouse, but to the surprise of many, it never actually was one. The owners decided this theme fit well with the building, so this is what they chose to incorporate in the decor.  Although it doesn’t have the history of a firehouse, the building does have a strong and unique history to it.

Originally called the “William Lugg Building”, it was owned by William Lugg, a businessman in the early 1900s, and was home to a garage and repair shop called Ford Garage. Over the years the building changed names and owners, but in the 1920’s it was turned into a “high-class, roller skating rink” owned by Ollie R. Boggs, which only lasted a short while.

By 1930, it was purchased by Standard Oil of Indiana and turned into a service station, and by 1935 was purchased again by J.W. Rankin, who began his business Rankin Chevrolet. Owners continued to change, but remained a Chevrolet dealership, for many years as well as an Oldsmobile dealership. Pumphouse Brewery moved in in 1996, and the building had to be transformed radically. They kept as much of the historic landmark as possible, which gives the venue a unique and quirky feel that customers love.

Their Beers

Because of their small brewing facility, they really only meet the demand of their brewpub patrons, and rarely will you find their beers anywhere else. This means that they are able to focus on the extreme quality of their beers, rather than only the quantity. They embrace providing for their community and the fact that they are a small, locally owned brewpub.

Their Year-Round beers offer popular styles, but with their own unique and personal touch that will please a wide range of beer lovers. Each brew has it’s own loyal following, and aim to keep these beers on tap at all times.

Their Seasonal beer list has more of their creative styles, which rotate in regularly and some are never duplicated again. They are always adding new and interesting beers, so they encourage customers to check in often!
