A Taste of Colorado

A Taste of Colorado 2This Labor Day weekend, celebrate food, visual and performance arts, music, crafts and Colorado’s Western heritage during the 27th annual A Taste of Colorado, the state’s largest free-admission outdoor event.

The festival will be held in Civic Center Park and showcases Colorado’s best food, with more than 50 restaurants in attendance, numerous culinary presentations and marketplace goodies. Visit the Fine Dining Area for a taste of the gourmet, where talented chefs and notable menus mingle. Also check out the Culinary Showcase where the “Gabby Gourmet” has chefs spilling the beans (figuratively) about trade tips and tricks you can apply to your own kitchen.

Local and national performers take the stage throughout the weekend, bringing festival-goers a mix of jazz, rock and roll, beats, rhythms and other musical sounds to delight the ears. Main acts include the swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, reality and rock-n-roll star Bret Michaels and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Rolie.

Activities include shopping among the 270-plus vendors, featuring arts and crafts, home décor, jewelry and fine imports found in the Arts and Crafts Marketplace. Make sure to stop by the Fine Art in the Park area to see a variety of masterpieces created by artists from around the country.

A Taste of Colorado is a great family event, with educational tents and booths showcasing the state’s diverse culture and heritage, looking at its pioneer background, mining history and natural resources. Plus, Saturday through Monday the family can catch a thrill on the many carnival rides.

And don’t miss the KidZone, where play equipment and hands-on activities will keep the little ones busy. The KidzStage also offers a variety of kids’ entertainment, with clowns, puppets, music and magic.

Although admission is free, you will need to purchase tickets to sample the food, buy drinks and enjoy the carnival rides and games. The event is cash only – no checks or credit cards, but ATMS are located throughout the park.
