
The Boettcher’s are recognized as one of Colorado’s most philanthropic families of all time. In 1924, the mansion, located in Downtown Denver, was sold to Claude K. Boettcher. When Claude died, his wife the following year, she left the house to a private family foundation and requested the house be left to the State of Colorado to be used as the governors’ residence. Originally the state rejected the offer, but in 1959, Governor Stephen McNichols accept the gift from the state. Today, Governor John Hickenlooper and First Lady Helen Thorpe reside in this 1908, Victorian mansion. Tours a offered and are free of charge.
